Travel options from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Besut Jetty
Fly from KLIA/KLIA2 to Kuala Terengganu (TGG) or Kota Bharu (KBR). Flights take 1 hour with airlines like AirAsia, Batik Air, and Firefly. From either airport, a taxi or Grab takes you to Kuala Besut Jetty in 1-1.5 hours.
Several bus operators depart daily from TBS (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) in Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Besut. The journey takes 7-9 hours depending on traffic and stops. Buses drop you at the Kuala Besut bus terminal, a short walk or taxi ride from the jetty.
Take the PLUS Highway North to Gombak, then follow AH141 (East Coast Highway LPT) towards Kuantan and Kuala Terengganu. Exit at the Kuala Besut/Pasir Puteh junction. The drive takes approximately 5 hours with good road conditions throughout.
Travel options from Penang to Kuala Besut Jetty
Several bus operators run direct services from Penang (Sungai Nibong or Butterworth bus terminals) to Kuala Besut. This is the most popular option for Penang travelers. Buses typically run overnight or early morning.
Drive from Penang via the North-South Highway (E1) to Gombak, then join the East Coast Highway (LPT) towards Kuantan and Terengganu. Exit at Kuala Besut junction. An alternative shorter route is through Gerik-Jeli-Kuala Krai (highway 4/8).
Private car or van transfers from Penang to Kuala Besut can be arranged. Door-to-door service with professional drivers. Ideal for groups of 4-7 people or those with lots of luggage.
Travel options from Kota Bharu to Kuala Besut Jetty
The fastest and most convenient option from Kota Bharu. Taxis and Grab cars are readily available from the city centre or Kota Bharu Airport (KBR). The drive south takes about 1 hour on good roads. Negotiate a fixed price with taxis or use the Grab app.
Budget-friendly shared shuttle vans run between Kota Bharu and Kuala Besut. These depart from several points in Kota Bharu city and the airport. Shared vans may make multiple stops but offer excellent value.
Local buses run from Kota Bharu to Kuala Besut. Buses depart from the main bus terminal in Kota Bharu. This is the cheapest option but less frequent β check the schedule in advance.
Heading back to the mainland
The return boat from Perhentian Islands to Kuala Besut Jetty takes 30-45 minutes. Return boats depart at 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 4:00 PM. Confirm your return time with our office at least one day before departure.
Once you arrive back at Kuala Besut Jetty, you can take a taxi to Kuala Terengganu (RM100-130, 1 hr) or Kota Bharu (RM80-100, 1 hr), catch a bus from the Kuala Besut bus terminal, or pick up your car from the parking lot.
